In October, in the city of Tryavna, will gather 20 young people from 4 different countries united by one motto – “What divides us bring us together”. Misunderstanding of other nations, lack of real information about their culture, habits, traditions, history, etc. are the main factors that gives rise to other, more unpleasant phenomena such as:
-hate based on cultural (historical) identity, thanks to targeted distortion of historical facts, praising the motherland and dumbed other cultures and peoples;
-radicalization based on hatred and misunderstanding to others, which in recent years is becoming a serious problem across Europe.
– stereotypes based on incorrect facts or misinterpretation of information that most often reached them, thanks to the mass media or social networks.
The name of this project is exactly what we are trying to achieve – to show young people that the very things that divide us bring us together. The Balkan Peninsula has always been very conflict zone due to its very geographical locations – a crossroads between east and west, north and south. The boundaries of the Balkan countries have repeatedly remodel and will continue to remodel because they are political boundaries, not cultural, religious or geographical. The important thing is in these moments to know and follow one basic rule that we are all human and as much as we think we are different, better or worse than others, all from inside are the same – we all love, all mourn. Because of these constant changes in state borders over the centuries, culture, customs, food, our folklore, etc. is quite similar and through the program that we have prepared, we will be able to prove this to the young people who will participate in the project.
Thanks to a carefully prepared program with our partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Greece we will reach a deeper understanding of our neighbors, their traditions, customs, culture, cuisine, dance and more.
Through this project we will influence on a fundamental need of young people, which is lack of knowledge about cultures / nations on our borders.
