“Oh My Sugar!”

International Youth Exchange

“Oh My Sugar!”

Summary:

In Europe, unhealthy eating habits and sugar overconsumption are a big health risk. Many youngsters are obese and get diabetes at early age, but this could be prevented by cutting off unhealthy food and staying away from excessive sugar. That’s why it is important to pay consciously attention to reducing the consumption of sugar and keeping healthy diet as one of the backbone of the healthy lifestyle among young people.
“Oh My Sugar!” is a youth exchange from young people to young people, where learning is based on non-formal education methods, with NO TEACHER OR TRAINER. Learning will happen in the atmosphere where young people can learn from each other, with planned daily schedule, set learning objectives and outcomes! All the participants will contribute to the carrying out activities during the youth exchange!
During the youth exchange participants will discover the basics of healthy eating . They will prepare a healthy daily menu, which will be eaten in wild nature , developing group work skills and learning about other cultures . They will do visual experiments about the sugar amounts in food and drinks we consume daily. Also participants will be searching for commercials from the city which influence people to consume more sugars and unhealthy food. There will also be workshops where they will try some alternative ways to use sugar , like arts or making a body scrub. During the youth exchange we also will visit factories which produce high sugar level food and drinks. Participants can see how much unhealthy products are produced daily and can realize it as a huge health risk for all. During the youth exchange participants will also make a video which can make other youngsters aware of the amounts of
sugar they consume daily and influence to decrease it. Video will be posted to social media by participants to pay attention to the issue. After the youth exchange we hope that our participants will be more aware of the topic and will share their knowledge with their friends and also we hope they can do healthier choices from then on .

Weather in July:

The Estonian summers tend to be fairly short, with the high season falling during late June, July and August, when the daylight lasts for around 18 hours.
Tartu has a humid continental climate with w arm summers and no dry season. We have a lot of mosquitoes due to the humid climate. Just be prepared and keep doors and windows close if you want to sleep in your room.
The average temperatures in July, which is considered the warmest month of the year, are during the daytime 22°C and during the nights 12°C.
It’s difficult to predict if we’ll have sunny or rainy days, weather forecast here is not very accurate on long-term forecasts. So, be ready for sunshine with 27°C and also be prepared for rainy days and 17°C, and nights will be colder. Take swimwear and T-shirts and also jackets and long clothes with you!
It’s also recommended to take a small backpack and waterproof jacket or raincoat with you – we are going to the nature for a day, and we can’t guarantee it’ll be a sunny day 🙂
