The present society, in the developed countries that assume themselves as being at the forefront of respect for human rights and diversity, aspires not to cope with behaviors of exclusion or indifference in the face of intellectual difficulties. However, we have a large number of young people with disabilities in situations of social exclusion. As a strategy to combat social exclusion, it is common to see limited interventions for the social inclusion of people with special needs, who are unable to respond to the real needs or provide the opportunities that would bring change to their lives.

In this context, social responses are intended to be innovative, differentiating and generating impact for the disabled, for communities and for society. However, society lacks initiatives to train the disabled, structured with a view to autonomy and equality, breaking with the traditional concepts of welfare without value added and with no potential for full integration into society and the labour market.

Problem and objectives

The key word of this project is the inclusion of young people with intellectual disabilities. At present, societies are faced with a large number of young people who, despite their intellectual limitations, are fit for the job market but are unemployed and without social responses. The resistance to entry into the labor market of people with intellectual disabilities is caused by the stigma of skills and intellectual ability that are perceived as limited and unproductive. Thus, through the training of young people with intellectual disabilities for employability and the development of skills in the context of work, we aim to provide a healthy learning environment and preparation for the world of work.

It is essential for all those involved in the project to provide the young people with disabilities and accompanying persons with the necessary skills to effectively manage and support diversity, thus contributing to a positive interaction with different inclusion groups, regardless of the ethnicity, abilities and disabilities, sexual orientation, colour, socioeconomic status, education and linguistics. For the benefit of young people with disabilities and their inclusion in society, it is fundamental to promote a positive response to diversity and to ensure that everyone can participate by betting on the recognition of the value of differences in behaviour and life experiences.

In this context, the aim is to provide a safe and secure environment for learning and preparation for the world of work for young people with disabilities, promoting inclusion and diversity, employability, intercultural dialogue, respect for human rights and values of freedom.

The overall objective is to enable young people with intellectual disabilities and the technicians accompanying these young people to employability and to develop skills in the work context.

The specific objectives are:
a) Promote access to employment opportunities for young people with disabilities;

  1. b) Access and experience employability and social inclusion practices through the insertion in the labor market of young people with intellectual disabilities;
  2. c) To acquire competences that makes young people more active in society and in the labor market;
  3. d) Increase the quality of training and youth work of the population with disabilities;
  4. e) To develop the knowledge of strategies oriented to the resolution of conflicts in a work context;
  5. f) To develop the sense of citizenship and European identity, offering the opportunity to create international contact networks.

The expected impact is:

– Development the employability spirit in the labour market at national and European level;
-Communication skills development in their mother tongue and in a foreign language, skills in mathematics and basic competences in science and technology, digital competence, learning to learn, social and civic competences, initiative spirit and entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and expression;
– Strategies development to conflict resolution in the work context;
– Development of behaviour proactive;
– Learning multicultural development, individually and collectively;
– Active participation in society development;
– Intercultural dialogue development;
– Development of the freedom values, inclusion, tolerance and respect for human rights;
– Development of critical thinking and initiative spirit;
– Development the European dimension and multicultural experiences.


Improved social and young people well-being by reducing the social stigma and the violence rate in young people, the youth unemployment rates, social and democratic abstention, poverty risk, social discrimination, inactive population, among others.


We wil have 2 activites: Advance Planning Visit (APV) and Youth Exchange (YE).

 Advance Planning Visit (APV) – 24 to 25 of July of 2018 (plus 2 travel days).

 Youth Exchange (YE) – 10 to 14 of September of 2018 (plus 2 travel days).


Participant`s profile required:

The participants of the project have to be young people with intelectual disabilities, with fewer opportunities and employability difficulties, aged between 16 and 30. The gender balance must be respected

The group leader and the staff members have to be, at least, 18 years old; be in tune with the problem, needs and objectives; capacity to carry out practices among young people with disabilities and to have knowledge in the NFE methodology so that the training of young people with intellectual disabilities and accompanying persons is effective and of quality, giving rise to the consolidation of new learning and skills. Fewer opportunities must be cultural, economic or social obstacles.

For de APV each organizations needs 1 group leader plus 1 participant with intellectual disabilities (with fewer opportunities and employability difficulties).

For the YE each organisations needs 1 group leader plus 4 participant with intellectual disabilities (with fewer opportunities and employability difficulties) plus 2 staff members – total of 7.


The project will take place in Póvoa de Varzim. Further information about the venue will be shared with the selected participants.

Working methods:

All the training will be done through the methods of non-formal education. The activities will be for example brain storming’s, plenary discussions, simulations, role plays, team building, energizers, ice breakers and many others. Non formal education we remember you that is voluntary, no hierarchical and all its methods are based on the concept of learning by doing.

What to bring with me:

  • we will have an intercultural evening, so bring your national food and drink.
  • bring your national flag, magazines, postcards what will help you to introduce your country.
  • if you bring your laptop will be easier for working, but is not mandatory.
  • and your good mood. This is the most important ☺

Intercultural night:

What we expect from you to present in these nights are: local or national dances, local music, games, little sweets, drinks, pictures, etc. from your countries.
Every country will prepare a short presentation of their culture, using all kinds of methods. It’s preferred a short and FUNNY presentation, such as showing pictures and commenting it, quiz, short video (either already existing or made by you), etc. (YES – use your creativity!). For the intercultural night, we ask you to prepare in advance a brief performance (singing, your traditional music, popular dances) to present your group (typical costumes are really welcomed!).
The main idea of this presentation is: What is important for a stranger to know about my country?
Any kind of presentation is granted, better not to do a power-point presentation to avoid yawning.
The Intercultural night is the “most wanted event” on the beginning of the youth exchange. It is a sort of traditional night opened to all participant audience made up of our group leaders, youth workers, facilitators, participants to the exchange. All National groups are asked to perform briefly (10 for your NGO and country/city not more, and 10 min for traditional dances and music) in order to introduce their self. Certainly, we need your enthusiasm and energy!!
For the Intercultural evening a Swedish buffet (cold buffet) will be organized. Here every country will bring traditional food dishes. The food that will be brought must be eatable without any processing (boiling, frying, etc). The dishes must also be accompanied by a brief description (their origin and ingredients, the way they are eaten…)

Travel Costs:

100% of the participants‘ travel costs will be reimbursed within the valid budget sums calculated according to the official rules of Erasmus+ programme. If a sum exceeds the limit, the excess will be paid by the participants themselves. The reimbursement limit is 360€ per participant from Bulgaria.

Reimbursement of the travel costs will only be done after submitting all original tickets, receipt/invoices, boarding passes and later sending of the return documents and boarding passes. Save the boarding passes from your airport check in as well. Please, be aware that in case you loose any invoices or tickets we will not be able to reimburse the cost. Reimbursement will be done in EURO, regardless of the currency indicated on your ticket and receipt/invoice according to the official currency exchange rate of European Commission.

! Note: in case of higher travel cost, you will need to cover excess yourself.

Please note that full completion and attending to the programme is mandatory to qualify for a refund. There can be no late arrivals or early departures. If you wish to stay longer for a touristic visit, please consider that the extra days prior or after the seminar are at your own expenses as there will be little time for this during the programme.

Important: It will be send only one bank transfert per Country . The recipient of the reimbursement is the partner association, not the participants according to the funding National Agency rules. To receive reimbursement participants should attend all the planned progamme elements (before, during and after the project activities).

Financial support:

Project is supported by “Erasmus+” program. Accommodation, meals, program and travel cost (based on distance) are covered from grant. There is NO participation fee. However, 15 BGN will be deducted from the guarantee of 100 BGN which every participant must send prior the departure, in order to be covered the different taxes, related to the participation of each representative from Bulgaria (bank transfer fees, post expenses, difference in the exchange rates, etc.). This guarantee will be reimbursed after completing all the dissemination activities, the participant is required to conduct after returning to Bulgaria.


The travel insurance is not mandatory but it is highly reccommended. It costs 1 BGN/day and covers all the common injuries during projects up to 5000 Euro. Our organization is not covering insurance, it is individual, but we are going to support you to obtain a proper insurance for the duration of the project. Every participant is individually entitled to receive a Youthpass Certificate, which confirms participation and validates the non-formal learning (NFL) experience of Training course project. Validating the learning experiences of participants is important in itself and the document can be of benefit in terms of the educational or employment future of the participant. Through Youthpass the European Commission ensures the Training course activity is recognized as a non-formal learning experience.
