“Surviving skills as educational tools”

The difference between life and death is our skills for survival. Within 10 days, youth workers from 12 different countries will gather at the foothills of the magical Rhodopа Mountains and learn basic survival techniques in the wild such as first aid, lighting up and cooking on fire, finding food, drinking water and good place to build a camp and others. The idea for this project arose during the project “Bushcrafts DNA”, 8-15 June in Birmingham, England, and was further refined in cooperation with the Bulgarian Scouts and the Union of Bulgarian Rescuers. Our main motivation for the realization of this project is to show in a new light, as an educational tool, basic techniques and survival skills in the wild and to convey this information to the participating organizations, which can use it in their work with children, adolescents and people of all ages. Our goal is to link work with pleasure, and thus stimulating outdoor activities, a healthy lifestyle, care for nature and the inclusion of people with fewer opportunities. What we have found as a problem that many youth organizations face is the need for activities that do not require serious investments in materials, facilities etc. that are educational and instructive, affordable, relatively easy where can include people of all ages and to be …. fun. Another major problem that we defined through the years of work is that very often disadvantaged people who are experiencing economic and geographical difficulties are not included in certain activities, or because they lack the resources for materials, tickets, etc. or simply they are from remote locations and access to them is limited. And thanks to the activities included in this project, none of these problems would not be insurmountable.
Based on these criteria, in recent months we developed this project, which is the first step, but a vital one, building on a more serious work in the coming years. This project will focus on one of the senior most important needs of the organizations, but also will answer several strongly growing global problem – the lack of outdoor activities, active care for our health and care for nature.
The motto that gathers and unites in a common goal 13 organizations is: “This is the first step in conquering the summit”.
And yes, this is only the first step …

1 st – lower mountains, easy climate
2 nd – hingher mountains, more chalanging climate
3 rd – island
4 th – somewhere north, as closer as possible to the North Pole.
